Orang
Enigmatic beings standing at 5’ tall, weighing up to 250lbs, and covered in shaggy orange hair Orang are reclusive strangely intelligent Apes that Man believes coexisted with them before the Sorrow. Seemingly, they understand all aspects of machines and tools including their break down and creation from raw elements. However, they only exercise this knowledge to return to their lifestyle of arboreal living and eating tree fruits. To date, no Orang has ever lived under prolonged captivity. From melting iron slivers into a lock pick to building a catapult perfectly aligned to target a soft tree canopy. Given enough time, an Orang will escape. In addition to this mystery Man cannot explain, Orang have no spoken word or written language, no glyphs carved into trees, no symbols traced in dirt.
Living in bands, their territories span vast stretches of jungle and forest, where they construct elaborate aerial dwellings woven from vines, reinforced with prepared wooden structures. Their homes are suspended high in the canopy, camouflaged and imperceptible to a Man below. Despite their ability to work metal, they show no interest in tools beyond those necessary to ensure their continued freedom. Weapons, for instance, hold no appeal to them, and they appear pacifistic towards each other. Passive to an extreme, as natural climbers, a desperate Orang can bring considerable upper body strength to bear.
